Dr. John Robert Cummings, age 93, a resident of Hyde Park, died November 7, 2003 at The Christ Hospital. Dr. Cummings, a retired general surgeon and associate professor of medicine at the University of Cincinnati, retired in 1983 as Director of Medical Services for The Christ Hospital. "He was a doctor for over 50 years. His medical profession and concern for his patients was the focus of his life", said his son, David Cummings of Cincinnati. A native of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, he earned his bachelor of science degree at the University of Kentucky and completed his doctorate in medicine at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He interned at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit and completed his surgical residency at The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a Fellow of The American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Medical Association, the Ohio Medical Association and the Cincinnati Academy of Medicine. Dr. Cummings served as a Major in the U.S. Army during World War II. In addition to his son, Dr. Cummings is survived by his daughter, Mary Wallace Cummings, and granddaughter, Courtney Cummings, both of Cincinnati, and grandson, David Dow Cummings of Seattle, Washington. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
