Jean (nee Faust) Melia, 92, of Cincinnati, died peacefully March 8. Daughter of the late John Faust and Elizabeth (OBrien) of Norwood, and sister of the late Catherine (Strupe) and Rose (Sweeney). She was the spouse of Joseph Melia, mother of Jeannine (Tom Imhoff), Joseph (Mary Jo), Michael (Jeannette), Gregory (Deborah), Judy, Sharon (the late William Keeler), Denise (Eric Cone) and Sandra (Kevin Usleman). She is survived by 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. Always calming demeanor despite the omnipresent undercurrent of chaos about her with an ever growing family, she showed unwavering care and affection to each of her children as each one was special to her. A devoted wife she supported her husband through good times as well as those more challenging as he embraced the perils of an entrepreneur, destined to build a business that would provide for their family. She shouldered the balance of responsibilities of family and household with assertive acceptance and unassuming competence, composure and grace. She saw each of her children through homework, extracurricular activities, turbulence of adolescence, learners permit-driving exercises, and more. Rarely showing evidence of her fears or disappointments, more often she radiated a smile of amusement and contentment with the family she shaped and that shaped her. As her children grew into adulthood and made lives of their own she endured as a central source of light, a beacon of assurance and warmth, of home, to her children and their children. They are instilled with memories and wonderful stories that will be shared among themselves and with offspring of the future. They will carry the warmth of her light with them through the rest of their days. Mom and Dad often made donations to a number of charities for several years which they called Mission Control. If you feel moved, in lieu of flowers please feel free to send donations to the Catholic Relief Services, Catholic Charities of Southwest Ohio, Cincinnati Catholic Ministries Appeal or appropriate religious mission organizations of your choice. The family would like to thank the Meadowbrook Care Center staff for their continual care and compassion. Visitation is at Good Shepherd Church, 8815 East Kemper Road, 9-10 am Tuesday, March 13, followed by Mass at 10:00 am.
