James J. McDermott, preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Catherine (nee Mercurio), Friday, the 21st day of December, 2007. He leaves his daughter Karen, 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Jim was the last of a family of ten children. Jim was a veteran of WWII, serving proudly as a marine in the South Pacific. He revisited American Samoa a few years ago. Jim recently moved to Scarlet Oaks Retirement Center in Clifton. He will be greatly missed by the staff and residents, as anyone who met him grew fond of him immediately. Visitation will be Friday, December 28 from 5 to 8 PM at the Gilligan Funeral Home, 8225 Montgomery Rd at Galbraith, Kenwood. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Saturday, December 29 at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 7754 Montgomery Rd, Kenwood followed by a Service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Montgomery.
