James F. Barker was reborn to eternal life surrounded by his family on August 25, 2016, age 86. He was a devoted husband of 58 years to Joan (nee Bernard), loving father of Elizabeth (Frank) Geiser, Amy Dillman, Jenny (Michael) Lenzner, Tom (Kathy) Barker, and grandfather of David (Anna) and Sara Dillman, Edward Geiser, Charlie and Clare Barker. Survived by his brother Tom Barker, and beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was the loving son of Edward and Florence Barker (nee Varleman), and preceded in death by his brother John Barker. Jim was a graduate of St Xavier High School, the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering, and Army ROTC. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army, then returned home to humbly live out his vocation of marriage and family. He was employed as a metallurgical engineer with GE Aviation for 32 years, and recognized in industry for expertise in several aviation materials. Jim was devoted to his Catholic faith, a loving, humble, and generous person. He enjoyed many years traveling with family, flying his plane, and time with family at Lake Charlevoix in Michigan and Captiva Florida. He touched many with is love of life, adventurous spirit, and generosity to church, charity and missions. The family expresses their gratitude to the staff at SEM Haven for the compassionate, and devoted care. Visitation Saturday, August 27, 2016, at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 7754 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, OH 45236, from 9:00 until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the form of Mass intentions or to SEM Haven to support their mission for care of the elderly.
