Harold C. Schafer, 84, of Overland Park, KS passed away unexpectedly on November 22, 2017. Harold was born on Jan. 27, 1933 in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was a graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH. Upon graduation he served his country the U.S. Army. He married the former Mary Jane Kramer (deceased), mother of his three children who survive him, Lucy Murphy and son-in-law Tim Murphy, Martha Ehlinger and son-in-law Matt Elinger, Christian and Jenny Schafer. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Geraldine Schermoly-Schafer of the home, his brother, Andrew Schafer and wife Marla, and his three step-children, Michael Schermoly, Dr. Martin Schermoly, and Leslie Allison. Harold also will be remembered by his 12 grandchildren. Harold spent his 50-year career as an accomplished Certified Public Accountant with firms in St. Louis and Overland Park. He was an avid reader, a Notre Dame football fan, and had traveled extensively throughout the world. He was a deep follower of his Catholic faith and was a member of Ascension and Nativity Catholic parishes in Overland Park. Visitation at St. Gertrudes Catholic Church parish center in Cincinnati, OH, from 11-1 followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 1 p.m. Dec. 1, at St. Gertrudes Catholic Church. Burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Cincinnati, OH. A Mass of Remembrance will be held for Kansas City family and friends at 10 a.m. on Dec. 15 at Ascension Church, 9510 W 127th St., Overland Park, KS.
