Born and reared in Cincinnati, Harold R. LeBlond, Jr., long a member of a local machine tool family, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at age 82. "Hop" or "Hoppy" as he was known, attended the Summit and Cincinnati Country Day Schools and was a 1948 graduate of the Hill School, Pottstown, PA, where he played on the school's first ice hockey team. He was also Captain of the school's soccer team in his senior year and President of the Athletic Association. Colleges included Princeton University and the University of Cincinnati from which he graduated in 1953 and was a member of the ROTC. Subsequently, he attended and was graduated from Officer's Basic Course 15 at Ft. Bliss, TX, as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1954. After two years of service as side to the Commanding Officer of the 11th AAA Group, Hop was asked to extend his service duties as side to the United States Military Attach to Lebanon. He declined this offer and was honorably discharged a First Lieutenant in the Anti-Aircraft Artillery in 1956. Employment followed at the J.H. Day Company from which he retired as Assistant to the President after 28 years of service. Interesting to note that at that time the Day Company was a pioneer in the supply of mixers used in the processing of solid propellants employed in Nike, Polaris and other ballistic missiles. Hop later was graduated from the 1969 Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School. He then formed a graphics design company (It's All In A Name) featuring creatively drawn city, corporate, organization and State names screened on ceramic beer steins, coffee mugs, glasses, ice buckets and tee shirts. Among companies exhibiting these unique graphics were Bloomingdale's (New York), Shillito's (Cincinnati), the J.L. Hudson Company (Detroit), Carson Perie and Scott (Chicago) and others. During this period he also worked with John Ruthven and the late Charley Harper screening their art on assorted products. Hop served on the Board of the Norwood Chamber of Commerce and as President of the Guardsmen organization and Miami Club. Among his other duties was service in an advance capacity for the late Vice President, Spiro Agnew. Charities for whom he worked were Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen and Tender Mercies. Hop enjoyed Golf, tennis and paddle tennis and was a member of the Camargo Club. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sherry Noonan LeBlond; a daughter, Meredith LeBlond Freidman of Cincinnati; another daughter, Susan LeBlond Bailey of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; a son, Harold R. LeBlond, III, of Biddeford Pool, ME, and Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and a sister, Patricia LeBlond Clasgens of Felicity, OH; 2 step-daughters, Kimberly Espy and Kristina Espy and a step-son, Bromwell Espy together with four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
