IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Grace E.
Mcclorey
March 28, 1927 – September 16, 2024
Grace E. McClorey, 97, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 28, 1927, to Elmer and Elizabeth Hake, Grace lived a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to her family and community.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Thomas J. McClorey, and is survived by her four children: John, Karen, Mike, and Jeff. Grace was a proud grandmother to John and Meg (LeBlond) McClorey's children, Christopher (Naomi) McClorey and Meriwether; Karen and Donald Hackett's children, Grace (Phil) Kownslar, Kelly (Drew) Bibb, and Donny (Dani) Hackett; Mike and Kit (Dupree) McClorey's children, Max (Alissa) McClorey and Annie (Sean) Donovan; and Jeff and Tracy (Steger) McClorey's children, Dillan and Natalie (Taylor) Brammer. She was also a doting great-grandmother to 14 great-grandchildren.
Grace was a proud alumna of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, where she earned her degree in journalism. She applied her skills as a copy editor at Mabley and Carew department store, taking great pride in her work. Her love for her faith and community was evident through her active membership at St. Gertrude Church, where she played a key role in publishing the parish's monthly newsletter.
An avid golfer, Grace found joy and camaraderie with her "9 Holes is Enough" group. Whether on the course or planning the monthly dinners for her Monday Golfers, Grace brought enthusiasm and warmth to every gathering. She cherished her weekly games with her son Jeff, which continued until she was 93, with her putting game still as sharp as ever. It was only the pandemic that kept her from the course after her last match in December 2019.
Grace's kindness and faith touched countless lives. She was known for giving out pocket angels to family, friends, and even strangers, spreading comfort and reminding others that God was always with them. Her gentle spirit and thoughtful gestures left an enduring mark on everyone she encountered.
Her favorite saying, "We are Family," perfectly encapsulated her life's mission. Grace worked tirelessly to keep her family connected, ensuring everyone came together, especially at the annual Thanksgiving celebrations, which brought her immense happiness.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Senior Star at the Kenwood and Queen City Hospice for their care and kindness. They became part of Grace's extended family and held her close in her final days.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date, updated service information will be posted as it becomes available.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Mary of the Woods in Grace's Memory.
Her legacy of love, kindness, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Grace's departing words, "Be Kind to One Another" will live on in all who knew her.
