Elmer C. Korte When her only son was born 82 years ago, Loretta Burbrink Korte was asked why she named her baby Elmer, because there was no saint by that name. She quickly responded, "well now there is." Elmer Charles Korte was born on March 17, 1928 to Elmer B. Korte and Loretta Burbrink Korte. He died on January 17, 2011, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-one years, Claire Reidell Korte. Five years after her death, he wed Jean Korte, with whom he shared his life in Florida for the past thirteen years. His three children, Jill (Dave) Parris, David (Randye) Korte, and Susan (Rick) Rieger were devoted to their father until the end, and miss both of their parents every single day. Elmer was also the proud grandfather of seven wonderful grandchildren: Matt Korte, Michael Korte, John Michael Rieger, Jonathan (Jack) Korte, Cara Korte, Katie Rieger, and Matthew Rieger. Through his marriage to Jean, he also developed a special relationship with Jean's daughters, Kim (Jeff) Welle and Wendy Smith. Elmer was a graduate of Elder High School. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in chemistry from Xavier University, and served as a First Lieutenant in the Army during the Korean War. In the 1980's, he received a Master's Degree in religion from Mount Saint Mary Seminary. He was a member of the executive team at Texo Corporation for thirty years, where he developed lifelong friends like Dave Kaplan and the late Mel Fisher. He retired in the mid-1990's as Texo's Vice President for Research and Development. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 22 at 11:00am at Bellarmine Chapel on the Xavier University campus. Prior to the mass, Elmer's family will be available for visitation at 10:00am at Bellarmine. He will be laid to rest at St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the hospice of your choice or Avow Hospice of Naples, 1095 Whippoorwill Ln., Napels, FL 34105.
