The Cincinnati Enquirer By Rebecca Goodman UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS - The A team at Cincinnati Tennis Club won the interclub title each of the nine years Elaine Townsend Hocks was its coach. Mrs. Hocks loved tennis and was an excellent player. She coached the Cincinnati Tennis Club's girls team and worked with the Western Tournament and the Tri-State Tennis Tournament. She died Saturday of respiratory failure at Good Samaritan Hospital. A resident of Little Sisters of the Poor in University Heights for the past three months, she was 74. Mrs. Hocks made friends wherever she went, said her daughter, Kim Hadam of Hyde Park. 'Everybody loved her and she had a million friends.' She grew up in Hyde Park and was a 1947 graduate of Summit Country Day School. In addition to playing and coaching tennis, she was involved in several organizations. She was a past board member of the Summit Country Day Alumni Association and a supporter of the Friends of the Orphans of St. Joseph Orphanage. She was a member of the Cincinnati Woman's Club and worked for many years with the Charity Ball committee. She also volunteered for a now-defunct group called Easy Riders, whose members transported blind people, according to her daughter. Mrs. Hocks was also a member of Deschapelles Bridge Club, the Civic Garden Club and a 40-year member of Hyde Park Country Club. Her husband of 56 years, Harry J. Hocks, preceded her in death two years ago. In addition to her daughter Kim, survivors include another daughter, Shelly Foley of Dayton, Ohio; a son, Jay Hocks of Oakley; and four grandchildren.
