Dorothy Jane (Gelhaus) Schulz age 99 widow of Gilbert John Schulz, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16, 2017 in Peoria, AZ. Born April 27, 1917 in Kenton, OH daughter of Eugene and Gertrude (Strong) Gelhaus. Dorothy was raised in Kenton and graduated from Kenton High School. On December 5, 1942, Dorothy and Gil were married in Cincinnati, OH. Dorothy had several jobs including a teletype operator for AT&T during WWII and an inventory manager for Ellis & Watts. Some of her favorite activities included playing bridge, golfing and reading. She enjoyed the family cabin in Michigan and traveling and vacationing in places such as Alaska, Mexico, Europe and the Caribbean and her favorite cruises were through the Baltic and Panama Canal. She frequently visited with her children and grandchildren in Michigan and Connecticut. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Marilyn J Schulz and husband Kevin F McCarthy of Bloomfield, CT; her daughter-in-law, Barbara L (Cole) Schulz of Mt. Morris, MI; and her 5 grandchildren, Lisa M (Suter) Phillips of Simsbury, CT; Todd D Suter and wife Lisa of Charlotte, NC; Nathan T Schulz and wife Candice of Coopersville, MI; Andrew J Schulz and wife Sarah of Midland, MI; and Jill E (Schulz) Andrako and husband David of Brooklyn, NY; and her 9 great-grandchildren, Marissa and Joshua Phillips of Simsbury, CT; Luke, Aurora and William Schulz of Coopersville, MI; Eleanor and Daniel Schulz of Midland, MI; and Bert and George Andrako of Brooklyn, NY. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Gil, her son, Robert J Schulz, her brother, Robert Gelhaus, and her sister, Helen (Gelhaus) Eagan. The family would like to give special thanks to the caregiver staff at the Montecito in Peoria, AZ and to her hospice team at the Hospice of the Valley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8815 E Kemper Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45249 with a visitation starting at 9am in the Chapel. Interment will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 11000 Montgomery Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45249. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
