Doris Jean Mayans of Cincinnati, Ohio died at her home in Price Hill. She was 80 years of age. Originally from St. Cloud, Illinois, Mrs. Mayans moved to Cincinnati when she was only 18 months old. A life-long educator, Mrs. Mayans held several teaching and supervisory positions in southwest Ohio. Before her retirement in 1987, she was vice-principal and curriculum coordinator for the Blue Ash school system where she had worked for 14 years. Mrs. Mayans was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Frank Mayans, and is survived by her mother, Luella Kaiser, six step-children, Elizabeth Brice (William Brice) of Boynton Beach, Florida, Susan Brainerd (Gordon Brainerd) of Billerica, Massachusetts, Dr. Robert Mayans (Sherri Mayans) of Whippany, New Jersey, Barbara Messinger (Stephen Messinger) of West Chester, Ohio, Nancy Mayans of New York, New York, and Steven Mayans (Terry Resk) of West Palm Beach, Florida, as well as ten grandchildren. Passionate about art and local history, Mrs. Mayans volunteered with the Cincinnati Art Museum and was a long time supporter of the Cincinnati Art League. She was also an avid gardener, a member of local garden clubs, and a patron of the Cincinnati Flower Show (sponsored by the Cincinnati Horticultural Society). Most of all, she enjoyed sharing her love of flowers and herbs with her family. Visitation will be Friday, February 25 from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the Gilligan Funeral Home, 8225 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45236. Funeral service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m., Horizon Community Church, 3950 Newton Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45244, with a reception immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Art League of Cincinnati, P.O. Box 9204, Cincinnati, OH 45209.
