David Keith Harmes, encouraging those he loved until his last breath, passed away on Sunday, September 29th, 2019 in Cincinnati, Ohio at the age of 70. David was born to proud parents, Daniel DuVal Harmes and Dorothy Dean Harmes (nee Noffsinger) in Evansville, Indiana on January 29th, 1949. He is survived by the love of his life, wife Cheryl Lee Harmes (nee Whitson), cherished children David Keith Harmes Jr. (Michelle), Nicole Lynn Clayton (Larry), Frank Dennis Lucas II, Deanna Lee Lucas, and Pamela Marie Hickey (Nathanial), grandchildren Frank Dennis Lucas III, Trevor Allen Beckham, Haley Marie Beckham, Alexis Michelle Harmes, Colton Allen Clayton, Dylan Daniel Harmes, brother Douglas Kenneth Harmes (Marcia), three great-grandchildren Cassidy, Cyand Jet, and beloved aunts, uncles, neices and nephews. David is preceded in death by his parents, sister Danna Kay Jeffers and daughter-in-law, Lynnda Ann Lucas. David believed that when we take care of the whole, everyone benefits. His life's work impacted many and therefore, generations to come. A born fighter, he was elected and appointed into positions of leadership based on his consistently sound judgement and ability to negotiate to resolutions that resulted in fair wages, excellent benefits and safe working conditions for the working class. After his first of many hospitalizations in 2015, David began working on the foundation of what will be a non-profit focused on educating young people about the benefits of a career in the trades as well as an ongoing charity for his working class brothers and sisters in need of support for medical expenses. His kids are proud to carry his incredible legacy and vision into the future. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 4th, 2019 at Gilligan Funeral Home located at 8225 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45236 from 11:00am-1:00pm with services immediately following. David will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Montgomery, Ohio.
