Obituary

Daniel was born January 16, 1921 in Cincinnati to Jacob and Mary (nee Miller) Dittmann. He attended Holy Family School, and Elder High School, before his father's death in 1936. Dan's love and strength was a comfort to his mother and to his sisters, Mary Bernadette and Catherine. Providing for his family for several years, Dan worked as a Western Union employee, a professional trumpet player, and a candy maker for Kroger, eventually earning his diploma from Western Hills Night School. Dan married Kathleen "Kitty" Kleiman on May 17, 1947. After studying accountancy at the University of Cincinnati, Daniel worked for King Wrecking and Container. He and Kitty were blessed with a loving extended family and lifelong treasured friends. True models of Christian faith and love, Dan and Kitty raised two daughters, Barbara and Karen. Dan's passion for learning and the arts was at the heart of the family's life. He and Kitty cheerfully attended countless school concerts, plays, and academic events. Over the years, they were also regulars at their grandchildren's activities and school productions. When Kitty suffered a major stroke in 2010, Dan's love was once again an unfailing source of strength. He was often seen holding Mom's hand, his head bent close to hers, speaking quietly to her in his sweet way. Their marriage of 64 years was an inspiration to everyone who knew them. A lifelong resident of Price Hill, and parishioner of Holy Family, Daniel devoted countless hours to church activities including lectoring, distributing Communion, and coordinating charitable work through the St. Vincent De Paul Society. His interests included traveling, fishing, Scouting, music, his dogs, and most importantly, his dear family. The family wants to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Hospital, University Hospital, and Comfort Keepers of NW Hamilton County for their loving care of Dan and their continued support of Kitty and the rest of the family. Dan was the loving father of Barbara (Marc) Alexander and Karen (Mark) O'Hara. Devoted brother of Mary Bernadette Addison and Catherine "Kay" Kleiman. Beloved grandfather of Jessica (David) Thielen, Anna Marie Alexander, John Alexander, Melissa Alexander, William (Kathleen) O'Hara, and Kristin O'Hara. He is also survived by many relatives and friends. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Holy Family Church, 814 Hawthorne Avenue, Cincinnati, from 9 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Food Pantry, 3006 West 8th Street, Cincinnati, OH 45205.
