Daniel (“Dan”) Ray Houston, 84, of Montgomery, Ohio passed away peacefully at home on the morning of March 15, 2026.
Born on September 17, 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio Dan was the son of the late Adrian Ray and Ophelia (Weiler) Houston. Dan graduated from Colerain High School in 1959 where he was a proud member of the football team. He then attended Miami University, graduating in 1963; Law School at the University of Cincinnati followed. Dan obtained his JD in 1966 and thereafter began a long and successful career as a probate and real estate lawyer in Cincinnati. Dan loved his work and was universally respected by his peers and colleagues.
Dan met his wife Jeanne (Smith) on a blind date and the two fell in love. They married in 1966 and together raised two children, enjoying a full life of love, laughter and travel. Dan was a faithful Catholic and, with his wife, was a parishioner at All Saints Church in Kenwood. Together they attended the 11AM service weekly, sitting in “their” own spot. Dan loved golf, playing a regular Saturday game for many years at Beckett Ridge Country Club, then Weatherington Country Club. He loved the challenge of the sport, the beauty of nature and the camaraderie. Dan was a fantastic cook and grill master. For years his family and friends were the beneficiaries of his culinary skills – the highlight of which was an annual, made-from-scratch black tie Christmas dinner that he prepared for a group of his closest friends.
Above all Dan loved his family. He adored his daughter, son and grandchildren – each of whom was given a special nickname. Dan had a razor-sharp wit and often those who spent time with him would leave his company with a broad smile.
Dan is survived by his wife, Jeanne; their children Megan (Moe) of Greenville, South Carolina, James of Cincinnati, Ohio; his son-in law Robert Moe; his daughter-in-law Faith Houston; his grandchildren Colleen Moe (and husband Daniel Croakman and their sons), Alexander Moe (and wife Lancy), Lola Houston, Dominic Houston and Maximillian Houston; his great granddaughter Bennet Ray; his sister Cynthia Ward (Houston) of Louisville, Kentucky; his brother Rodney Houston of Phoenix, Arizona (and wife Nancy); his brother-in-law Thomas Smith (and wife Sheliah); and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A funeral Mass will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Kenwood, Ohio at 11AM on Wednesday March, 25. Following the mass a graveside service will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Montgomery, Ohio with a Celebration of Life to be held thereafter at Ferrari’s Little Italy restaurant in Madeira, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Make a Wish South Carolina
Dan’s spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew and loved him and he will be dearly missed.
