Obituary

Cornelius F. Cronin, aged 87, of Silverton, Ohio, passed away suddenly on January 8, 2024. He was born on March 20, 1936, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Cornelius A. Cronin and Loretta (Kramer) Cronin. The family moved to Silverton, Ohio, when Cornelius was very young.

Cornelius was a proud graduate of Purcell High School. He regularly attended monthly luncheons with the surviving alumni from his graduating class. He dutifully served his nation as a member of the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Corporal. Following his military service, he embarked on a successful career with the US Post Office, demonstrating unwavering commitment and diligence until his retirement.

A man of deep faith, Cornelius found solace and inspiration within the walls of St. John the Evangelist Church. His devotion and reverence for his spiritual community were a testament to his abiding belief and steadfast values.

In his leisurely pursuits, Cornelius indulged his passion for history, particularly the events of World War II. With a discerning eye and a love for capturing moments, he pursued photography, freezing time in frames that would preserve the beauty and significance of the world around him. Additionally, he took great pleasure in genealogy, diligently tracing his family lineage and cherishing the stories of his ancestors. A loyal supporter of the Cincinnati Reds, he followed their endeavors with unwavering enthusiasm.

Cornelius will forever remain in the hearts of his cherished nieces, Elizabeth Crawford (Michael Griffes), Susan Felder (Richard Brown), Loretta (Ronald) Dennis, Kathleen (Robert) Comella, and beloved nephews, Thomas Huff and David (Kathy Jo) Sheldon, as well as numerous great, great-great, and honorary nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many friends, specifically, George and Barbara Willenbrink, Joan Hollstegge, and Sylvia Osterday. He was preceded in death by his father Cornelius A. Cronin, mother Loretta (Kramer) Cronin, and sisters Elizabeth (Thomas, Sr.) Sheldon, Lenora Cronin, and Rose (Ernest) Huff, niece Roseanna Hughes, and nephew Thomas Sheldon, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Salvation Army or the Marine Corps Toys for Tots, symbolizing Cornelius' generosity and compassion for those in need.
