Coleen Rose Schement (nee Pearl), passed away peacefully on November 30th 2024. Coleen was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, on April 20th, 1929. She was preceded in death by her parents Catherine and Francis Pearl, her sister Patricia Halibica and her lifelong friend Mary Van Sickle. Coleen was a cherished wife, devoted mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother, and a loyal friend to many.
For 70 remarkable years, Coleen was the beloved wife of Anthony John "Tony" Schement, who preceded her in death in 2017. They were high school sweethearts who built a life together grounded in love, partnership, and family. They were best friends finding joy in each other's company whether they were gliding across the dance floor, enjoying a friendly game of golf or tennis, or cheering on their beloved Cincinnati Reds. Their enduring bond served as an inspiration to all who knew them.
Coleen embraced her roles as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother with immense joy and pride. The time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a source of pure happiness, and she treasured every shared moment, creating lasting bonds and imparting her wisdom and warmth.
Coleen was an exceptional cook and loved to entertain. She had a gift for bringing people together around the table. Her holiday meals were legendary, involving weeks of thoughtful preparation, a true expression of her generosity and love. These gatherings created cherished memories that will forever be treasured by family and friends.
Coleen deeply valued community and believed in giving back. For over 50 years, she was a dedicated member of Beta Sigma Phi, a social and charitable sorority, where she forged lasting friendships and contributed to causes close to her heart. Even in her nineties, Coleen remained active and engaged, regularly attending book club, playing mahjong, dominos, and bridge, and enjoying occasional trips to the casino, demonstrating her enduring zest for life and connection.
She is survived by her children Kathy Ligan (Warren), Suzan Brester (Peter), Mike Schement, Ph.D. (Shun). Grandchildren are Andrew Burke (Adrianne), Nick and Tony Brester and great grandchildren Sloan and Dagny Burke. She was fortunate to have step grandchildren Kim Fitzsimmons (Ryan), Tracy Hucker (Josh), Warren Jr and Christine De Carvalho (Alan) and their children Jonathan, Colin, Grace and Ruby.
There will be a Mass of Christian burial followed by brunch at The Community of the Good Shepherd 8815 East Kemper Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45249 on Friday, June 20th at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
