DOLLENMAYER, Charles Joseph "Charlie", age 87, of Cincinnati, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022. Charlie was born on September 27, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated from Purcell High School in 1952.
Following high school Charlie enrolled in Xavier University and joined the Xavier Army ROTC. He enlisted in the active Army in 1955, was assigned to the 3rd Armored Division stationed near Frankfurt, Germany, and served in the Army Reserve upon his return to the United States in 1957. Charlie graduated from Xavier University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He later went on to pursue his master's degree and graduated with a Master of Business Administration from Xavier University in 1968. Charlie married the love of his life, Mary Lou Smith on January 28, 1961.
Charlie was a loyal career employee of General Motors, starting in 1963 at the Inland Division in Dayton, OH. He transferred to the Norwood Assembly Plant in 1969 where he worked until his retirement in 1987. Charlie was a lifelong automotive enthusiast, enjoyed travel with family to Florida and Tennessee, and was a dedicated sponsor of many charities including the Salesian Missions, St. Rita School for the Deaf, and Salvation Army. He had an avid interest in military and industrial history and was a frequent patron of Dayton History's Carillon Park and the National Museum of the United States Air Force. Charlie was active in the practice of his faith as a member of St. Gertrude Parish.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Lou; children, Susan (Russell) Franz of Loveland, David of Madeira, Jane (Gary) Thompson of Bellbrook; grandsons, Michael Franz and Craig Franz both of Cincinnati; brother, Stanley (Melanie) of Naples, FL; and brothers-in-law, Art Fischer and Chuck Smith both of Cincinnati. The family would like to thank the caregivers at SEM Haven, Milford and Hospice of Cincinnati, Blue Ash for the exceptional care provided to their husband and father.
Family will greet friends at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, 6543 Miami Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45243 on Thursday, June 16 from 8:30-9:30 AM in the Parish Center followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 9:30 AM in the Church. Services are in the care of Gilligan Funeral Home, Cincinnati. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salesian Missions.
