Maxwell, a long-time resident of Cincinnatis East End Columbia Tusculum neighborhood, passed away suddenly early Wednesday, May 12. She was 87. Caroline moved from Russellville, Ohio to Cincinnati in 1938 where she met her husband Edgar Dutch Maxwell. They were married in 1939. Both were looking forward to their 65th wedding anniversary in August. Caroline was also looking forward with great anticipation to her 70th reunion of her graduating class from Russellville High School to be held later this month. It was a celebration that she rarely missed. Caroline was very active in the life of St. Stephen Parish. Seven of her children attended St. Stephen School where she had an outstanding relationship with both the Sisters of Mercy and St. Ursula who staffed the school until its closing. She worked in the school cafeteria and parish festival, served as a lay distributor and was a member of parish council and the ladies sodality club, where she was president several times. She was a founding member of the East End Community Health Center in the 1960s where she worked to make sure that the center was funded, staffed and had the needed supplies, even when it meant traveling to the old General Hospital to pick up medications for members of the community. She was an active member of the Democrat party serving as precinct executive, long-time poll worker, Democrat club president, treasurer and secretary. She was also active with the East End Community Council, Purcell High School Parents Club, Ursuline Academy Mothers Club, Columbia Parkway YMCA and more recently Hyde Park Senior Center where she looked forward to her weekly poker games. The treasure of Carolines life was her family. She and Dutch had eight children (seven surviving), twenty grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She loved traveling to visit her family, enjoying weddings, first communions, baptisms, sporting events, family reunions and any other reason to visit. After Dutchs retirement they traveled frequently, including trips to Hawaii, Alaska, the Caribbean and a cruise on the Delta Queen. In addition to being survived by her loving husband, Dutch, she is survived by Jim (Mitzi) of Aptos, CA, John (Bea) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Joe (Linda) of Temecula, CA, Luke (Dorinda) of New Richmond, Mark (JoAnn) of Kenwood, Chris (Shelly) of Villa Hills, KY, and Mary Joe (Jim) of Grove City, OH. A son, Jerry, died at birth in 1943.
