Obituary

C.JOSEPH BRIDE JR PASSED AWAY at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Catsy Nelson Bride, 3 children, Crescent Joseph III, Laura Bride Strietmann, Moira Bride Frey, 10 grandchildren, Jay Strietmann, Sean Frey, Nelson Strietmann, Garrett Frey, Jordan Bride, Catherine Strietmann Matthew Frey, Crescent Joseph IV, Brennan Bride, Erin Frey, and his great grandchild, Parker Joseph Strietmann.

Joe was born in Rockville, Maryland, May 27,1936. He was the oldest of four children. In 1958 he graduated from the University of Notre Dame. Among his achievements while attending Notre Dame, his most notable was the Assistant Director of Sports Publicity. Due to this position, he was with Paul Horning, a friend, when Paul was told he had won the Heisman Trophy.

Joe and his family moved to Cincinnati in 1977. He loved to tell the story that prompted his choice to change cities from Rochester, NY. There was a one page, one line advertisement, on the front page of the NYTimes for Lawler Ballard Advertising searching for a Marketing Director for their Cincinnati office. He immediately responded. After years of living in many cities across the country for his job, Joe looked forward to this opportunity - not only for the challenge - for his wife, so she could be closer to her family in Louisville, KY. Joe served as head of the regional office of Lawler Ballard advertising & Public Relations Institute INC from 1977-1986. While working for Lawler Ballard he helped create the first economic plan for the Greater Cincinnati Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Cincinnati economic development plan, The Blue Chip City.

Another notable Cincinnati client was the first ever advertising campaign for Skyline Chili - EAT SKYLINE CHILI - which included a 3-D billboard cheese coney on 71 South. Another primary client was Taft Broadcasting for which the agency did the marketing and public relations for Kings Island. Included among the firm's achievements was the naming of The Beast Roller Coaster. He also helped develop the first College Football Hall of Fame in 1978 in Kings Mills, Ohio.

In 1986 he formed Bride Associates. He was President of Bride Associates from 1986 until the time of his death. Bride Associates clients include The Castellini Company, for more than 25 years, US Bank, Mayzach and the World Peace Bell. Joe served the community as a member of the board of trustees for the college of Mount Saint Joseph, and was Chairman of the Marketing Committee for CISE for 20 years. He was a member of All Saints Parish for 42 years.

Prior to coming to Cincinnati, Joe was a reporter for Louisville Courier Journal and an Editorial Assistant for the Washington Post. Joe then became a writer for Life Magazine 1961-1965, Public Relations Director for the Baltimore Orioles in 1966, the year they won the World Series. He then moved to Rochester, NY where Joe worked for Carl Byoir and Associates where he was the Account Executive for Eastman Kodak.

There are too many highlights from Joe's career to mention. A few notable stories he reported on for Life Magazine was the story of Roger Marris, when he broke Babe Ruth's record in 1961 (Joe was in the locker room for the celebration), Kennedy, Nixon, Reagan and Ford. A favorite story was climbing a mountain with astronaut Scott Carpenter and his children. They climbed the mountain so Scott could show his children the area that inspired him to become a pilot.

Joe was constantly learning and reading. He was known to be a competitive bridge player. His love of Sports and Sports statistics was unparalleled. He still was completing The New York Times crossword puzzle up until 2 months ago when his hands started to fail him.

Joe was a faith filled man. He had faith in God. Faith in his wife. Faith in his family. Faith in humanity. Faith in Notre Dame. He was able to meet people where they were in life. He could assess their values, their needs and emotions and connect to everyone surrounding him. Joe will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
