Barbara "Barb" Ellen Doyle, born on June 9, 1933, in Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, at Bellmont Terrace in Florence, Kentucky. She was 92 years old.
Barb enjoyed a remarkable 31-year career as a school teacher, primarily at the historic Columbian School in Avondale, and later at Bond Hill School. Her commitment to nurturing young minds extended beyond the classroom, as she annually took her 5th grade students on educational trips to Washington, DC, inspiring curiosity and learning that transcended traditional teaching methods.
An adventurous spirit, Barb was known for her fun-loving personality and her enthusiasm for life. Even at the age of 90, she was piloting airplanes, proving that her zest for adventure knew no bounds. Barb's hobbies included hiking, mountain climbing, and swimming. A world traveler, she embraced new experiences and shared her love of swimming with her nieces and nephews, teaching them the joys of the water. Her experience as a former lifeguard and camp counselor underscored her dedication to youth and safety.
Barb's educational journey began at St. Mary's in Hyde Park for grade school, followed by an impressive tenure as president of her class at Mt. Notre Dame High School, where she graduated in 1951. She later earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Cincinnati, which laid the foundation for her fulfilling teaching career.
Beyond her career, Barb was extremely proud of her accomplishments, particularly building her stone-sided house with her own hands, a testament to her determination and skill. She also graced the world with her musical talent as a classical pianist, further enriching the lives of those around her.
Barb is preceded in death by her parents, Howard Doyle and Colette Scholl Doyle, her brother, John Doyle, and her two sisters, Margaret "Peg" Weber and Patricia "Pat" Hall. She is followed in death by her sister, Colette Ann Wurzelbacher.
A Requiem Mass with her sister, Ann Wurzelbacher, is scheduled for Wednesday July 22, 11:00 AM, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 2845 Erie Avenue, Cincinnati OH. 45208.
