Obituary

On January 27th 2025, as a beautiful sunny morning broke to reveal God's Goodness, Ann Midden Sweeney (90) rejoined her late husband James Patrick in eternal happiness. She was the daughter of the late Wilhelmina "Minnie" and George B. Midden. The youngest of six children, Ann is preceded in death by her siblings Georgia (Bud) Brecher, Joe (Virginia Rudder), Helen (Randy) Mehler, Bernard (Fran Jones), and Ruth (Lark) Box, all of whom have now welcomed her in Heaven with open arms and rejoice. Ann often told stories of her fondness growing up on the family farm in Harrison County, Kentucky. During this time, she loved their Sunday family chicken dinners (as the youngest she always got the hankie while Ruthie got the wings). She attended Saint Edward's Elementary and graduated from Cynthiana High School (class of '52).

She left Cynthiana for Cincinnati when she attended Our Lady of Cincinnati (later renamed, Edgecliff College and even later Xavier University). After graduating, she was very proud of the year she taught school and then worked in the advertising industry, both as client service support and talent.

In 1961, she gave up the life of a 'career girl' to marry the love of her life James Patrick Sweeney. They started life together in Louisville, spent a brief 2 years in Tulsa, returned to Louisville, finally moving to Cincinnati where she spent most of her adult years. In 1962, she became the very proud mother of James Patrick Sweeney III and in 1963 Steven Joseph Sweeney joined the family. Much later, in 2002 she became grandmother to Katylin Hunter Sweeney, daughter of Steven and Deb Vicchiarelli.

Ann lived a life of service to others. In addition to raising her family, she worked tirelessly on multiple committees at Bellarmine Chapel, including serving for more than 20 years on the bereavement committee. She loved the women that became part of her extended family there. She enjoyed the social connections she built through her bridge club, and returned to her teaching roots by tutoring at several elementary schools.

Visitation will be held for Ann on Friday, January 31st from 5-7pm at Gilligan Funeral Home in Kenwood, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10:00am Saturday, February 1st at Bellarmine Chapel. The Mass will be live-streamed HERE . Friends are welcome to follow to Gate of Heaven Cemetery for interment, and to meet at Ann's home after to enjoy some of her favorite foods and celebrate her life.

Ann believed Celebrations of Life are for the living, she strongly suggested the appropriate attire was bright. Her favorite color was yellow, just so you know.

God Bless Ann, her family, and her friends. We are better off for having had her in our life and grateful she will continue to be a guiding light.
