Obituary

Andrea Weis, beloved wife of Lawrence H. Dean, mother of Tullus and Julia, daughter of Kenneth and Suzanne Weis, sister of John (Karen), Mary Rebecca, and Julie (Chris), sister in law of Shelly (Doug), Paddi (Michael), Eddie (Mariaca), and Fletcher (Linda), daughter in law of Albert (Tricia) Dean and beloved aunt of the 'cousins,' died at her home on November 20, 2012. Andrea was born June 25th, 1968 in Louisville, Kentucky. That event earned her the nickname "Sweet Kentucky Babe" from her Mother. She was a blessed surprise who changed the world around her from the day of her birth. Andrea was a devoted Latin teacher for 19 years at Indian Hills High School where her students won numerous awards in local, state, and national competitions. She relentlessly explored new avenues of learning for her students, and her recent 'Science Friday' addition was a hit with her classes. Andrea was a consummate professional and always available to help her teaching colleagues. Andrea had a spectacular career as a gymnast and spent countless hours in the gym in Texas, where she grew up. She earned All-American honors twice as a Yell Leader at Baylor University. She was also a proud member of the infamous NoZe Brotherhood. A graduate of Baylor University (BA and a Baylor Cheerleader) and the University of Georgia (MA), she combined a Classical scholar's rigorous exactitude and a Southern woman's grace and decorum. She was beloved for her sharp and spontaneous wit that found joy in life's absurdities. At home in the ancient and modern worlds alike, she could find as much aesthetic pleasure in Aristotle and an episode of "Glee." And she was always beautifully dressed. Andrea enjoyed a glass of Merlot and her stack of bedside books, which she appropriately called her "nest of literacy," revealing her wide-ranging interests and passion for learning that went well beyond the classroom. She was a self-described "word-person," a protector and proponent of well-wrought sentences that withstand the test of time. She imparted her devotion to love of words and language to her children, whom she loved beyond our understanding. Her bright smile and kind, loving soul will live forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Andrea will be dearly missed by her family and friends including her sweet rescue dogs Smarty and Anni and by her students, both past and present, who carry forth her legacy. We are all better persons for having known her. Visitation will be held at Gilligan Funeral Home, 8225 Montgomery Rd., Cincinnati, Ohio 45236 , on Friday, November 23rd from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, November 24, 2012, 10:00 A.M., at Good Shepherd Church located at 8815 E. Kemper Rd. Cincinnati, Ohio 45249, followed by internment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery 11000 Montgomery Rd. Cincinnati, Ohio 45249. In lieu of flowers, send contributions to The Humane Society.
