Obituary

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and son, Albert Edwin Dilz Jr., 93, of Cincinnati, OH passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025. He was born February 5, 1931 in Cincinnati Ohio, where he resided for the majority of his life.

He attended Greenhills High School, where he was elected president of his class, lettered in 3 sports and sang in the men's quartet. He attended The Ohio State University where he joined the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. It was here that he developed a passion for the Ohio State Buckeyes. As a member of the Ohio State Alumni Association and a football season ticket holder, Al rarely missed a home football game. His love for the Buckeyes was surpassed only by his love for his wife, Carolyn Dilz, to whom he was married for 71 years, and his love for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. An avid sports fan, Al never missed an opportunity to support and follow his grandchildren on and off the athletic field. He also passionately followed the Cincinnati Reds and the Bengals. Al coached youth baseball teams for many years and he could routinely be seen in the stands of area football and baseball games. He was president of the Forest Park Athletic Booster club for years, even beyond his children's graduation, giving of his time and leaving his mark on youth throughout the community.

Al served as an usher at the Forest Chapel United Methodist Church for years. Al is also a proud Army Veteran. Al worked for KDI Corp. for most of his professional career as an electrical engineer and ultimately became President of the company. However, his creativity and relentless work ethic led him to start his own business, Sports Sensors, when he retired from the corporate world. A brilliant inventor, Al developed and patented a variety of radar tools to measure swing speed and ball speed for sports such as baseball, golf, paintball, and archery. Al's determination and persistent positivity led to his products being endorsed by professional athletes and utilized by athletes striving to improve their performances.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Dilz, of Columbiana, Ohio; daughters Pamela Burley, Paula Burton (Michael Burton), Barbara Kiley (Christopher Kiley), and Julie Shirah (Clifford Shirah); sons James Dilz (Gay Dilz) and Albert "Guy" Dilz III (Elisabeth Dilz); granddaughters Laura Burley, Kristina Zellner (Stephen Zellner), Carolyn Noble (Timothy Noble), Catie Marks Griggs (Benjamin Griggs), Lindsay Curry (Thomas Curry), Elizabeth Velleca (Noah Velleca), Maria Kiley, and Sarah Dilz; grandsons Michael Burton Jr., Tyler Burton (Jennie Burton), Jimmy Dilz (Lily Dilz), Christopher Kiley Jr., Clifford (Will) Shirah, Matthew Shirah, and Thomas Dilz; great grandchildren Alaina Zellner, Ava Zellner, Hannah Burton, Elliott Najarian, William Griggs, and Shepard Griggs. He is preceded in death by his parents Ethel and Albert Dilz Sr. and by his son-in law James Burley.
