Terrace Park - Alan Hackenberg Griffith passed away peacefully on April 11, 2020. Alan was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 28, 1932 to parents Phyllis and Ellis. Alan was the beloved husband of 64 years of Bette Lou (Kind), father of Jeffrey Alan and Pamela Beth, grandfather of John Alan and Michael Srofe; and of Matthew Alan (deceased) and granddaughter Julia Griffith. Alan graduated from Shaker Heights High School, then from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He began his career at the Kissell Company in Springfield, then moved to Cincinnati where he and his partner, Glenn Jeffers, founded Community Builders, later called American Tectonics. Alan was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, numerous committees, and overseeing many remodelings and additions to the site. During his retirement, working with Habitat for Humanity became his second career. He was instrumental in forming the East Side Coalition of Churches to support Habitat's efforts. He has received numerous awards from Habitat locally and statewide. The date and time for a Memorial Service to celebrate Alan's life will be announced when the current health crisis has passed.
