Afrodite “Frieda” Kourlas Seremetis

Afrodite “Frieda” Kourlas Seremetis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the age of 90. She was born on August 5, 1935, in Norwood, Ohio, the proud daughter of Peter James and Georgia Kontos Kourlas, both of Geraki, Greece.

A woman of deep faith, Frieda was devoted throughout her life to the Greek Orthodox Church and its community.

Frieda attended the University of Cincinnati, where she earned an associate degree in business. She met her husband, George Seremetis of Dayton, at a church dance, and the two were married in 1960. Together, they raised their three children in Cincinnati.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Seremetis; her sister, Athanasea (Paul) Misali; her nieces, Kim and Denise Misali and Eugenia Thomas; and her nephew, Peter Misali.

Frieda is survived by her children, Greg Seremetis, Matina (Andres) Seremetis Pineda, and Pete (Janine) Seremetis; her cherished grandchildren, Georgia Pineda, Hannah Seremetis, Andrew Seremetis, and Gregory Seremetis; her brother, Chris (Stacey) Kourlas; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She always appreciated her local nephew and niece, John (Debby) Misali and Belinda (Jeff) Misali Kindle, for their kindness, love, and support over the years.

Frieda was known for her unconditional love, independence, determination, and can-do attitude. Even during difficult times, she remained grateful for what she had, always seeing the glass as half full, often saying “God will not give me more than I can handle.”

When circumstances required, she rejoined the workforce and worked as an administrator for Mercy Health for 35 years, where she formed many lasting friendships.

Family and tradition were at the center of Frieda’s life. For many years, she hosted extended family gatherings for Thanksgiving and Easter. She was a talented cook, and the family has yet to meet anyone who did not love her koulourakia. Frieda was also a gifted seamstress and crafter who enjoyed creating unique handmade gifts for new babies.

Frieda will be remembered for her spirit, resilience, kindness, generosity, and the traditions she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, perseverance, faith, and devotion to family.
