Obituary

William Frederick Stratton, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018 at the age of 86.

Beloved husband of Lillian J. Stratton (nee Groppenbecker), devoted father of William H. Stratton, Sharon Stratton (Jeffrey Dinnen), and Linda (James) Yellin, loving grandfather of Hannah Dinnen (Nick Fox), William Dinnen, Anne Yellin and Sam Yellin, dear great grandfather of Lillian Fox. Preceding him in death were his parents, Charles F. and Lorraine Stratton (nee Brown); brother, Charles G. Stratton; and sisters, Carol Hawley, Marilyn Meisberger, and Violet Bunner.

Bill loved growing up in lower Price Hill (“8th & State”) and had many lively stories about those years. Bill met the love of his life, Lillian Groppenbecker, as a teenager and they were married for 64 years. Bill was a patriotic American and veteran of the Korean War who served in the U.S. Air Force. His first and only son was born in Arizona and two girls followed. Bill raised his family in Delhi Hills. He worked at the A.B. Dick Company and owned a neighborhood store with Lillian for many years in Cheviot. Bill retired to live in Madeira for the last 15 years. He valued hard work and liked to keep busy and worked many of his ‘retirement’ years at Hader Hardware. Bill was physically strong to the end, after keeping cancer at bay for more than 16 years.

Bill was well liked by those who were lucky enough to know him. He had a great sense of humor and was friendly to everyone he met. Bill was first and foremost a family man: a loving husband and a role model and hero to his children and grandchildren, with clear values, quiet strength, dignity, and unconditional love. We will always think of him with the deepest love and affection and honor his memory for the rest of our lives.

The Stratton family would like to thank Doctors Cynthia Chua and Nolan Weinberg who provided extraordinary care over the years and the Hospice of Cincinnati for their compassion through his last days.
