Obituary

Dale Hookway (nee Renshaw) departed on Friday, June 27, 2017 at the age of 82 years.

Dale was the beloved wife of the late William A. Hookway, Sr., devoted daughter of the late Willard and Virginia Renshaw, beloved mother of William A. (Gina) Hookway, Jr., Eric Scott (Deanna) Hookway and Cynthia K. (Gary) Bagnoli, dear sister of Bill, Tim, Matt, Josh and David Renshaw, and the late Kelly and John Renshaw, loving grandmother of Ashley Gilland (Pete), Sam Hookway (Amie), Lauren Turner (Josh), Amanda Harrell (Rich), Ryan Bagnoli, Billy Hookway, Emily Hookway, Kelly Berling (Eric), Erin Wagonfield (Casey), Carrie Bagnoli, Nick Hammerstrom, Anna Hammerstrom, Lauren Coffman, Jack Callahan and Colin Callahan, also survived by 9 great-grandchildren.

Dale was an Army "brat" as well as the wife of an Army officer, travelling all over the United States and the world, supporting her husband's career and raising their three children, along with a houseful of ever-changing pets that traveled with them. Dale was a lover of all animals and can count over 40 pets she had in her lifetime.

Settling in Ohio after her husband Bill retired from the Army, Dale and Bill became grandparents to their first 2 grandchildren.

After Bill's death, Dale became an avid golfer and bowler, and loved traveling with great friends, especially her travels to Wisconsin for wine and cheese and to the northwest for the scenic beauty. She was also very crafty and began working part-time at a florist in Cincinnati, specializing in dried flower arrangements.

In her later years, the number of grandchildren grew to 15, as well as 8 great-grandchildren and another imminently ready to enter her new life as her great-grandmother travels on to another. She loved spending time with them and babysitting for them, helping out whenever she could.

As her cognitive abilities began to decline, she first moved to Mason Christian Village, and then to a wonderful home, Our Family Home. It truly was a home in every sense of the word. She was pampered and cared for by loving staff at Our Family Home, especially Ms. Elaine, Ms. Pat and Ms. Sheila, and made many friends while there. We are grateful to everyone at Our Family Home for such wonderful care and to Crossroads Hospice for their comforting care to Dale and her family as she transitioned to her new life.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 3 at St. Columban Catholic Church, 894 Oakland Rd, Loveland, from 9 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM. A reception will follow Mass. Interment will be at 2:30 PM at Mound View Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Ohio.

Memorials in Dale's name may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 644 Linn St., Suite 1026, Cincinnati, OH 45203-1721 or Crossroads Hospice, 4360 Glendale Milford Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45242.
