Anne K. Abate left this life on March 6, 2024 surrounded by her husband of 43 years, George S. Maley. Dr. Abate is survived by her two older brothers: Salvatore M. Abate of Columbus Ohio, and Frank R. Abate of Cincinnati, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Anne was preceded in death by her infant brother William Abate and her parents Cecelia (Homic) Abate and Frank M. Abate.
Anne was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and moved to Birmingham, Michigan, as a child. She graduated from Holy Name Elementary School, Marion High School, Xavier University (HAB), The University of Kentucky (MLS), Nova Southeastern University (Ph.D.), and Northern Kentucky University (Certificate of Public Administration). At various times Anne was a faculty member at Xavier, UK, NKU, Franklin University, and Nova Southeastern. In her information technology doctoral dissertation Anne predicted the emergence of data storage in the cloud. Her research continues to be cited by scholars.
Anne was active in the breast cancer community, reading and approving research grants for the U.S. Department of Defense and the American Cancer Society. In addition, Anne was a board member of the Special Libraries Association. As a doyenne of library education, Anne taught and mentored a generation of young librarians. She tirelessly pursued these interests while running her own self-created business and bravely enduring her personal cancer journey.
